Frescoes of the Cappella Maggiore of Santa Croce in Florence
The Golden Legend
The main chapel, located just behind the choir, has a beautiful polygonal architecture, illuminated by very large mullioned windows with superb stained glass. The cycle of frescoes relates the invention of the true cross according to the "Golden Legend" by Jacques de Voragine.
A most important choice since the aim here was to emphasise the importance of the name of the church itself.
These frescoes were painted by Agnolo Gaddi in 1380. Agnolo Gaddi also created the stained glass windows.
