The Church of Santa Trinita in Florence

Domenico Ghirlandaio The church of Santa Trinita was built in the second half of the 11th century and extended in Gothic style between 1300 and 1330.
Work was interrupted by the plague epidemic, but was resumed in 1365 and completed in 1405. The architect is thought to have been Neri di Fioravante.
The façade was rebuilt in 1593-1594 to designs by Bernardo Buontalenti.
There are some very fine frescoes by Lorenzo Monaco, depicting the life of the Virgin Mary and dating from 1420-1425, as well as frescoes by Passignano (1593-1594) in the Chapel of the Relics of Saint John Gualbert.
The most beautiful frescoes are those painted by Domenico Ghirlandaio between 1483 and 1486 in the Chapel Sasseti, depicting the life of Saint Francis of Assisi.
Neri de Bicci also left a large fresco of Saint John Gualbert surrounded by the Vallombrosan Saints (1455), as well as a beautiful triptych (1466) of the Virgin and Child on a throne with Saint Andrew, Catherine of Alexandria, Saint Lucy and Saint Nicholas.
