The war against Pisa lasted 13 years, whereas the fight against Siena was much shorter and took only 13 months.
Victory over Siena reinforced the return of the Medici at the command of Florence.
This war allowed Cosimo I de Medici to assert himself as a true leader in the eyes of the Florentines, showing them the value of a duke capable of decisions and full of energy, qualities necessary to protect their city and offer it a prosperous future.
Cosimo I de Medici was enormously impressed and delighted with Giorgio Vasari's works in the Hall of the Five Hundred, the 66 metres of frescoes, and the 42 painted coffers of the ceiling.
Giorgio Vasari wrote that the Duke, having admired his work, told him that he had achieved great things there and entrusted him with painting frescoes inside the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore’s cupola.
Another colossal work by Giorgio Vasari: 3,600 m2 of frescoes representing 700 characters!
