Chapel of Eleonora The chapel of Duchess Eleonora of Toledo, which is located right next to the Green Room, is one of the few places in Palazzo Vecchio that has not been decorated to the glory of the Medici.

However, among themes that decorate it, made by Bronzino, are symbolic representations of cardinal virtues: courage, justice, prudence, temperance, obvious allusion to the Duchess's virtues.

Here is represented the story of Moses, including the passage of the Red Sea, the fall of manna from heaven, the worship of the bronze serpent, Joshua, the miraculous birth.

Duchess Eleonora spent a lot of time in this chapel, explaining its proximity to her office.

Eleonora of Toledo was a religious believer and even devout, a Spanish Catholic maintaining a correspondence with St Ignatius of Loyola, and the Jesuit fathers were her confessors.
