“Coronation of the Virgin, eight angels and fourteen saints” Embroidery - (106 x 440cm) 1336
This linen pall embroidered with silver and gold silk threads, dating from 1336, is one of the richest surviving works of embroidery from the opus fiorentinum.It stood on the main altar of the church of Santa Maria Novella.
The main scene is that of the crowning of the Virgin surrounded by fourteen saints, seven on each side, with the patriarch Abraham closing the scene on the right and King David on the left.
